Today was my absolute favorite day in Brazil. I got to meet my Brazilian aunts and cousins! First off, the neighborhood their house was in was BEAUTIFUL! Each house's architecture was different. Two of my three aunts lived in that neighborhood, and my aunt Cristina's house had a garden with numerous vegetables and fruits, it was awesome.
The house everyone gathered at was my aunt Luciana's house, and the interior was even more beautiful that the outside haha. There I met my great-aunt Tia Lenita, aunts Luciana, Iracema, and Cristina, uncle Ivan, and cousins Camila (14), Carolina (20), Guilherme (16), and Luan Gabriel (14). We had a delicious meal made of mostly fish and got to know everyone. It was so funny trying to communicate with our cousins because they didn't speak much Spanish and even less English haha. It somehow worked out though! One cousin spoke a little more English while another spoke a little more Spanish, so my brother and I communicated by mixing English, Spanish, and the few Portuguese words/phrases we learned. The language was no barrier for bonding haha. Throughout the day we taught them a little about American football, played some soccer, talked about music, went to a pond where people could feed the monkeys, and went to a mall. It was only a few short hours spent with the Brazilian family but my brother and I really loved every moment. Meeting my cousins was definitely my favorite part of my time in Brazil. They were all so amiable and fun, it's a shame we had such a short time with them. But now I'm very eager to return to Brazil someday, hopefully to stay for a longer time and learn some more Portuguese while getting to know the family even better. The trip reminded me of how important family is, and how important it is to be aware of not only the family you see every day, but also the family you have that lives far away. This was the best way to end my stay in Brazil!
